Easter Bonnet Parade At Woodbank

(supporting the Tsunami Appeal in the village of Hikkaduwa Sri Lanka)

The residents of Woodbank have expressed a desire to make their contribution to the Tsunami Appeal. They have asked The Friends of Woodbank' to facilitate this. We are aware that most of you will have already given generously to this appeal, however, we, the Friends, admire the care and concern expressed by these elderly people and would like to give them our support.

Each year the residents take pleasure in decorating hats for their Easter Bonnet Competition. As this is a social event to which friends and families are invited , it presents an ideal opportunity to combine this with the residents' Tsunami appeal.

This will take place on Saturday 16th April at 2.30pm to 4.30pm.

We hope that as many people as possible will be there to support the occasion.  Light refreshments will be on sale. There will also be a Home Made Provisions and Cakes Stall and a raffle.

As we have links with people living in Sri Lanka, we have decided to give direct help to the village of Hikkaduwa. We will join with Scott Wilson, an International Consulting firm out there, who have adopted this village.  By providing school equipment they are helping the remaining children regain a measure of 'normality'. The money raised will go straight to these people, and we plan to show pictures and a video of help being received. Two of the young people recently returned (who used part of their holiday to be involved) will be able to give first hand descriptions of how they were able to relieve some of the suffering.

The success of this of course depends on you and we hope that you will be able to be able to come and/or pledge your help in any way. If you would like to know more about this event, please talk to Dorothy Mitchell. We hope to see you there!
